In chapter 4 read the case studies on Anna and Isabel.
These case studies highlight the importance of socialization by understanding how extreme neglect can hinder the socialization of a child.
As you read think about how their cases are similar. Then answer the question why did Anna die while Isabel lived? How was their socialization different?

Six Reasons Why Kids Should Know How to Blog

This article provides an interesting point of view as to why blogging is good for students in schools. She gives multiple reasons to support blogging as an important activity for students.
First she says it is important for students to start building a "positive digital impression" of themselves. As we rapidly move forward in this technological age, resumes are not just a piece of paper anymore. The way kids use the internet will provide an open book to future employers to understand who they are hiring. Teaching kids methods to build respect on the web should be an integral part of school today.
Another point she explains the importance of students learning more that social networking like facebook etc. Students can learn through blogging that there is more to the internet than keeping in contact with friends. It can be a place for discussing ideas on a variety of topics that can help students understand through a higher level of thinking processes.
Overall I think she made some great points and definitely gives good reasons to support why teacher's should add elements of technology like blogging to their classes. This article could definitely be useful to those teacher's that are concerned about the perception of blogging with students. Understand that you as a teacher are an adult and focus on the learning aspect of blogging with students. Also understand that parents will probably appreciate the transparency that Tina mentions in the article, as they can explore what their kids are doing in school.

Sociology Class Extra Credit
Lately in my classes I have been interested in finding music/music videos that can relate to topics in my Sociology class. Help me create my lessons. Your assignment is to seek out songs or music videos that deal with social issues we might discuss in Sociology. Please remember this needs to be High School appropriate(PG13). Bring me some good stuff!!! :)
To get credit: All I need is...
For a song: Just give me the name of the song and a description about how it relates to the class.
For a video: You may add a link if its public on a site like Youtube. Or again just leave the name and a description of the content and how it relates to the class.
Please realize there are copyright issues involved so be careful with what you post.
